Second EAPSTRA workshop

The 2nd and final EAPSTRA workshop on Product Lifecycle Support Technologies took place at the Business and Advanced Technology Centre (BATC) located at Universiti Teknologi Malysia's (UTMs) Kuala Lumpur campus. The workshop proved to be a great sucess with in the region of 70 individuals from industry and academia attending the two day event. The EAPSTRA partners were delighted to have Geert Anckaert,Programme Manager at Delegation of the European Commission to Malaysia and Pn. Hafsah Hashim from SMIDEC (Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation) delivering opening addresses.

The Second EAPSTRA Workshop is taking place on the 5th and 6th December at The Business Advanced Technology Centre (BATC), UTM Kuala Lumpur.

The workshop is aimed at both SME and academic delegates and includes speakers from government, South East Asian SMEs and Asian and European Universities.

First EAPSTRA workshop

The EAPSTRA project held it's first workshop for SMEs and Academia at Bangkok CODE on 29-30th August 2005. The workshop was attended by Mr Andrew Jacobs head of the European Union delegation in Thailand as well as representatives from industry and academia. The workshop covered a variety of topics ranging from Product Lifecycle Management to Intelligent Product Support Systems and included demonstrations of the pilot studies being prepared by KMUTT and UTM.

The next workshop is due to take place in Kuala Lumpur on the 5-6th December 2005.

EAPSTRA Patras Meeting

On the 4-5th April 2005 the EAPSTRA partners held a project meeting at the University of Patras, Greece. Amongst items discussed by the partners were the progress of the project so far, preparations for the EAPSTRA Workshops in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and the future sustainability of the project.

Meeting with EC delegation in Bangkok

On the 7th December the partners of the EAPSTRA project were pleased to meet the Asia IT&C programme officer Mrs. Nopmanee Somboonsub and Mr. Matthew Keyes (representative of EC delegation) at the offices of the European Commission delegation in Thailand in Bangkok. During the meeting the state of progress of EAPSTRA and other issues were discussed.

Linking with European Networks of Excellence

The EAPSTRA - EurAsian Network for Product Lifecycle Support and Training - is building links with the I*PROMS (Innovative Production Machines and Systems) Network of Excellence. Three EAPSTRA members Clausthal University of Technology, Cardiff University and University of Patras are members of I*PROMS and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia are associate partners.

The aim of the EAPSTRA (EurAsian Network for Product Lifecycle Support and Training) project is to facilitate EU – Asian research liaison and the transfer of European know-how in the area of Product Lifecycle Support and Training (Artificial Intelligence Tools, Computer Based Training, Intelligent Product Support Systems and Product Data Management) to Asian academia, research institutes and SMEs.
